When a number of key buildings on Bath’s Grade II listed RUH Hospital needed an essential waterproofing upgrade, TCRC were appointed to install a high performance solution.
The works primarily involved overlaying the existing asphalt roof and, for logistical and practical reasons, a two-layer bituminous roofing system from BMI Icopal was chosen as the most convenient and effective solution. Initially 130mm of PIR insulation was glued to the asphalt substrate to provide enhanced thermal properties. BMI Icopal’s Profiles Underlay and Cap Sheet membranes were then torch applied to provide long lasting waterproofing protection. To complete the system, new handrails and GRP trims were installed along with replacement lead flashing and new rainwater outlets.
In total, this project covered 6 roofs and an area of approximately 5,000m2. All works were completed on time within a 3 month period, despite the challenges of working around plant in a number of restricted areas and staying on track during the cold winter months.
